Tuesday Tip- Calming Your Nervous System


Your nervous system has nearly everything to do with your overall stress levels. Last week I introduced you to this concept (https://itaintadiet.com/2013/08/16/what-does-your-nervous-systems-have-to-do-with-your-problems-and-success/). Today, I invite you to pick only one day this week when you will do your exercise in the morning. Leave your music at home on the morning your choose. Depending on your fitness level I encourage you to alternate between a walk, jog, and run (i.e. walk for 5 minutes, jog for 5, run for 2, then repeat this for 30 minutes). Here is the trick… while you do this I would like for you to notice the impact of your foot striking the ground at each step. Each time your foot strikes your brain is stimulated on alternating hemispheres, which has a calming effect on your autonomic nervous system. Consequently, your nervous system balances between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems….. SWEEET!! As you do this in the morning you will be setting yourself up for a more calm day, despite the natural stress that might come your way!
